Bagmati Chief Minister Kiran Thapa Magar seeks vote of confidence

Newly appointed Bagmati Province Chief Minister Kiran Thapa Magar is seeking a vote of confidence from the Provincial Assembly today. The motion is being presented in accordance with Article 168(4) of Nepal’s Constitution and provincial regulations.

While the Chief Minister initially secured support from a coalition of UML, CPN, and RPP, his ability to maintain a majority is facing significant challenges due to internal party disputes. The CPN has issued a whip directing its 26 members to vote in favor of the motion. However, the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) has experienced a leadership rift; RPP Chief Whip Kumari Tamang issued a whip directing members to vote against the motion, though a pro-government faction within the party disputes her authority.

With 53 votes required for a majority in the 104-member assembly, the outcome remains uncertain as the RPP's 12 members may vote against the government or remain absent.
