Bagua health authorities alert of dengue outbreak with 569 cases

The Bagua Health Network has reported a dengue outbreak in the districts of Bagua, Imaza, and Aramango, with 569 accumulated cases so far this year. Of these, 531 are confirmed and 38 are considered probable cases. Currently, 12 patients are hospitalized at the Hospital de Apoyo Bagua.

Bagua district has recorded the highest number of infections with 262 cases, followed by Imaza with 183 and Aramango with 74. Roberto Sanjinéz Castillo, director of the Bagua Health Network, described the increase in contagions as alarming, noting that rainfall may facilitate the proliferation of the Aedes aegypti mosquito.

Health authorities are implementing epidemiological cordons, breeding site controls, and fumigation efforts. They are also coordinating with local governments for focal and spatial control campaigns. Recommendations for the public include eliminating water-collecting containers, keeping storage tanks covered, and cleaning container walls every three days to remove mosquito eggs.
