Bahía Blanca announces reconstruction of Teatro Municipal

Mayor Federico Susbielles has announced a reconstruction plan for the Teatro Municipal in Bahía Blanca, which has been closed following severe damage caused by flooding on March 7, 2025. The project aims to officially reopen the historic cultural landmark on April 11, 2028, to coincide with the city's Bicentennial celebrations.

The first phase of the project involves a public tender scheduled for December to repair the building's roof, a critical step to prevent leaks and protect the interior structures. To fund the restoration, the municipality will launch a participatory financing scheme, inviting the Unión Industrial de Bahía Blanca (UIBB), local large corporations, and residents to contribute.

Susbielles noted that the initiative proceeds despite a difficult economic context and a lack of national government investment in the city. As a personal commitment to the project, the mayor stated he will direct 50% of his monthly salary toward the reconstruction fund after completing his current donations to local disability care institutions.
