Bahía Blanca launches emergency platform and security totems

The municipality of Bahía Blanca has launched several initiatives to enhance public safety and emergency response. The city introduced ‘Alerta Bahía’, a digital platform designed to centralize official information regarding emergencies and meteorological events. The tool provides weather forecasts, real-time monitoring via cameras at strategic locations such as the Maldonado canal and Napostá stream, and Civil Defense protocols.

Mayor Federico Susbielles noted that the platform is critical as the city approaches its peak period for weather alerts between November and April. The strategy includes dividing the city into eight territorial zones to work directly with residents and institutions to identify safe meeting points and supply sites.

In addition to the digital platform, the city has begun installing emergency security totems, also known as ‘Safe Points’, in public spaces. These modular posts are equipped with 360-degree cameras, lighting, and panic buttons that provide direct communication with the Single Monitoring Center (CEUM) and 911 operators. The initial deployment includes ten units featuring high-definition cameras, intrusion detection, and two-way audio systems.
