Bahía de Banderas mayor responds to police detentions

The municipal government of Bahía de Banderas has issued a statement following the reported detention of several members of the local Citizen Security and Municipal Transit departments by the Nayarit State Attorney General's Office.

Mayor Israel Santillán Castañeda stated that the administration respects the rule of law and the due process of judicial authorities, asserting that “nobody is above the law.” He noted that the municipality will follow the investigations closely without interfering in legal determinations, while also providing legal and human support to the families of the involved officers.

While initial reports regarding the specific number of officers detained and the exact nature of the investigation remained unofficial and subject to hermeticism from state authorities, the municipality has deployed the National Guard, the Secretariat of National Defense, and State Police to conduct coordinated patrols in strategic sectors to maintain order during this period of restructuring.
