Mexico prepares for Day of the Dead cultural and economic festivities
Various regions across Mexico are preparing for the Day of the Dead season through diverse cultural, economic, and religious activities. In Cozumel, the second edition of the Day of the Dead Festival, titled ‘Tradition, Light, and Reunion’, will take place from October 23 to 25 at the Museo de la Isla. The event, which honors the Mayan tradition of Hanal Pixán, will feature free activities including video mapping, a monumental altar, and a tribute to the state of Michoacán.
Other regional celebrations include the Alfeñique Festival in Toluca, featuring artisanal sugar crafts, and the opening of the Plaza de las Tradiciones in Texcoco, which hosts over 400 merchants. In Nayarit, the Bahía de Banderas International Day of the Dead Festival will integrate surfing competitions in Sayulita.
Economic and agricultural sectors are also active; Cuernavaca anticipates a 30 percent increase in local business sales, while producers in Atlixco have prepared approximately 2.5 million cempasúchil plants for the season. In Ciudad Juárez, local nurseries are managing the cultivation of thousands of plants to meet seasonal demand.
