Bahamas launches park expansion and community greening initiatives
Environmental and community initiatives are underway across The Bahamas to enhance local ecosystems and public spaces. In Grand Bahama, the Bahamas National Trust (BNT) has launched a campaign to expand the national park system. The proposal includes expanding Peterson Cay and Lucayan National Parks, as well as establishing new parks in East Grand Bahama and the Northshore/Gap areas. The BNT aims to better protect critical nearshore and marine habitats essential for fisheries through these expansions.
In New Providence, the Bahamas Public Parks and Public Beaches Authority is conducting a tree-planting drive at Pride Estates Park as part of a broader effort to upgrade community spaces. Executive Chairman Jamahl Strachan has set a target to upgrade five parks every quarter, following recent beach cleaning efforts from Goodman’s Bay to Montagu. These initiatives focus on making public areas safer, greener, and more sustainable for local residents.
