Bahamas drug interdictions seize multi‑million‑dollar marijuana and cocaine shipments

U.S. Coast Guard fast‑response cutter USCGC Charles Sexton, working with the Royal Bahamas Defence Force, intercepted a vessel about 80 mi southwest of Great Inagua on 25 July 2026. Crew seized roughly 2,380 lb (1,080 kg) of presumptive marijuana valued at about US$2.8 million and transferred three suspects to Bahamian authorities.

Two days later, a joint operation by Operation Bahamas Turks and Caicos (OPBAT) and the Royal Bahamas Defence Force intercepted a white sailing vessel near Norman’s Cay. Officers found 54 Haitian nationals aboard, seized 21 lb of marijuana (≈US$21,000) and 26 lb of cocaine (≈US$520,000), arrested four Haitian men, and turned the remaining 50 individuals over to Bahamian immigration.
