Bahamas plane crash kills four members of Miami family
Four members of a Miami family have been found dead following the crash of a private Piper PA-34 aircraft in the waters off the Bahamas. The victims, identified as 80-year-old pilot Mario Lamar, his wife Lili Lamar, 79, and their grandchildren Sofia Sosa, 28, and Christian Sosa, 22, were recovered from the sea on Tuesday.
The aircraft departed Great Harbour Cay on Monday morning, bound for Miami Executive Airport. Air traffic control lost contact with the plane approximately 13 miles west of Andros Island. Flight tracking data indicated that the aircraft's altitude dropped sharply from 10,000 feet to 3,700 feet in three minutes before disappearing from radar.
While the U.S. Coast Guard and Bahamian authorities conducted search operations, initial efforts were hampered by inclement weather. Ultimately, family members participating in the search launched their own vessels and recovered the bodies. An investigation into the cause of the crash is being coordinated by the Bahamas Aircraft Accident Investigation Authority alongside the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration.
