Bahariya Oasis: Three ancient tombs discovered in Egypt

An Egyptian archaeological mission led by Dr. Sabry Farag has discovered three tombs dating to different historical periods at the Sheikh Soubi site in the Bahariya Oasis.

The first discovery is a collective tomb carved into sandstone, believed to belong to a single family of five. It features a square well approximately 3 meters deep with two burial chambers. Inside, archaeologists found a limestone sarcophagus containing a linen-wrapped mummy, alongside four additional limestone sarcophagi containing more mummies.

The second and third tombs are believed to date to the Roman era. The second is an uninscribed tomb featuring a staircase design, while the third is a collective tomb characterized by a shaft-style structure.

Sherif Fathy, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, noted that these findings provide new evidence regarding the history of the Bahariya Oasis and shed light on various aspects of ancient Egyptian civilization.
