Malik Munir Iqbal Channar wins NA-168 Bahawalpur by-election
Malik Munir Iqbal Channar of the Pakistan Muslim League (N) has secured victory in the NA-168 Bahawalpur by-election, according to unofficial and non-final results. Channar received approximately 79,306 votes, defeating independent candidate Wali Dad Cheema, who garnered 42,623 votes.
The by-election was held to fill the National Assembly seat vacated following the death of the former lawmaker, Malik Muhammad Iqbal Channar. The election process involved 483,143 registered voters across 292 polling stations. To ensure security during the vote, more than 3,000 police personnel were deployed, with the Pakistan Army and Rangers held in reserve.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif congratulated Malik Munir Iqbal Channar on his victory, stating that the result reflects public confidence in the PML-N. The Prime Minister also extended congratulations to Malik Zahir Iqbal Channar, the Deputy Speaker of the Punjab Assembly and brother of the winner, noting the family's long-standing loyalty to the party.
