Bahia 2026 election candidates and naming trends emerge

As preparations for the 2026 elections in Bahia progress, details regarding candidate profiles and Senate races are emerging. Bahia represents the fourth largest electoral college in Brazil, with approximately 11.3 million voters. For the Senate, voters will select two candidates to fill available seats.

Identified Senate candidates include Angelo Coronel (Republicanos), Carlos Sodré (Mobiliza), Gregorio Gould (UP), and Jaques Wagner (PT).

In the race for state and federal deputies, data from the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) reveals a trend regarding ballot names. More than 50 candidates have adopted the title ‘Dr.’ or ‘Dra.’ for their electoral names. However, only 19 of these individuals declared the profession of physician to the electoral court. The remaining candidates using the title include lawyers, dentists, nurses, and other professionals. The Republicanos party has the highest number of candidates using the ‘doctor’ title, followed by the PL.
