Bahia, Brazil issues wind and dry‑air alerts for dozens of municipalities
The National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) has issued a potential danger alert for strong winds affecting 19 municipalities in the extreme south of Bahia, with gusts forecast between 40 km/h and 60 km/h until 23:59 on Friday. The alert advises residents to avoid sheltering under trees, keep vehicles away from power lines, and contact civil defense or fire services in emergencies.
In addition, an orange‑level alert for low humidity has been placed on 28 municipalities in western, southwestern and northern Bahia, where relative humidity is expected to fall between 12% and 20%. The dry conditions raise health concerns such as skin, eye and respiratory irritation and increase the risk of forest fires. Inmet recommends staying hydrated, limiting outdoor activity, and monitoring fire‑danger warnings.
