Bahia cities Jacobina and Itabuna celebrate anniversaries with new development projects
Jacobina, a historic municipality in the interior of Bahia, marked its 146th anniversary of political emancipation, highlighting its colonial gold‑mining heritage and ongoing urban growth. The celebration underscored the city’s cultural traditions and continued investment in infrastructure and quality‑of‑life initiatives.
Itabuna, also in Bahia, commemorated 116 years of emancipation while showcasing a series of state‑funded projects. Recent investments include the opening of the first stage of the BA‑649 highway linking Itabuna and Ilhéus, expansion of health facilities such as a new regional polyclinic and upgraded hospital units, new educational complexes, water‑storage reservoirs serving over 140,000 residents, and the revitalisation of cultural and sports venues.
Both cities used their milestone anniversaries to draw attention to the broader development agenda pursued by the Bahia state government, aiming to boost commerce, services, health, education, and tourism across the region.
