Bahia Civil Police to use seized criminal firearms

The Civil Police of Bahia will be permitted to incorporate long firearms seized from organized crime into their own institutional assets for operational use. According to Ordinance No. 298/2026, published in the State Official Gazette, these weapons can be assigned to the specific police stations responsible for the seizures, provided they meet strict technical and judicial criteria.

To be eligible, weapons must be industrially manufactured, possess preserved serial numbers, and have their functionality certified by forensic examination. The Coordination of Controlled Products Supervision (CFPC) will evaluate the condition of the armaments and the operational needs of the requesting units. Weapons that are handmade, have tampered identification, or do not meet institutional standards will be sent for destruction rather than being repurposed.

The process requires a favorable technical report from the CFPC followed by judicial authorization for incorporation. Once approved by the courts, the firearms must undergo regularization procedures, including official registration with the 6th Military Region Command of the Brazilian Army and the issuance of a Firearm Registration Certificate (CRAF).
