Bahia court freezes R$ 12.7 million in assets of former Correntina mayor

The Bahia Court has ordered the freezing of assets belonging to Nilson José Rodrigues, the former mayor of Correntina, up to the amount of R$ 12,726,741.16. The measure follows a civil public action initiated by the Public Ministry of the State of Bahia (MP-BA).

The investigation focuses on potential irregularities regarding the collection and transfer of social security contributions to the Municipal Social Security Institute (Imupre) during Rodrigues’s administration. According to the MP-BA, the investigation identified a failure to transfer contributions and the use of successive debt refinancing and installments, which allegedly harmed the municipality and the financial stability of the local pension regime for civil servants. The asset freeze, which includes real estate, vehicles, and corporate holdings, serves as a precautionary measure to ensure funds are available for potential reimbursement to the public treasury.
