Bahia Court Lifts Ban on São João de Quijingue Festival Performers

The Bahia Court of Justice suspended the effects of a lower‑court injunction that had limited artistic contracts for the São João de Quijingue 2026 celebration. The decision, issued by Judge Rosita Falcão de Almeida Maia, restored the municipality’s authority to retain performances such as the duo Victor & Leo and halted the previously imposed spending cuts.

The court emphasized the festival’s economic significance for the semi‑arid region, noting its role in generating income for local merchants, hotels, transport and other service providers. Municipal mayor Romerinho welcomed the ruling, saying it preserves the town’s cultural tradition and the financial benefits tied to the event.
