Bahia court limits deputy Leandro de Jesus' access to state construction sites

On 27 April, a judge of the 7th Public Finance Court in Salvador ruled that State Deputy Leandro de Jesus (PL) may visit Bahia government construction sites only after scheduling an appointment, obtaining authorization from the responsible agency or concessionaire, and complying with safety regulations. Any breach will incur a fine of R$ 50,000 per violation.

The decision, issued in a lawsuit brought by the state, stresses that legislative oversight of the executive must be carried out through institutional channels—such as plenary sessions or Assembly committees—not by individual legislators acting alone. It references previous incidents involving the deputy, including an unauthorized entry at the Salvador‑Itaparica Bridge works and the removal of a totem at the BA‑649 project. Leandro de Jesus denounced the ruling as “persecution” and “arbitrary,” accusing Governor Jerônimo Rodrigues of authoritarianism, while insisting that his inspections are part of his constitutional duties.
