Bahia football updates: Baianão 2027 details and Arena Fonte Nova expansion plans

The Bahia Football Federation (FBF) has finalized the technical details for the 2027 Baianão championship. The competition is scheduled to begin on January 9, 2027, following a format similar to the 2026 edition. The first phase will feature a single round-robin group consisting of clubs including Bahia, Vitória, Jequié, and others. The top four teams will advance to a single-match semifinal, with the final set for March 7.

In related sports news, Associação Desportiva Jequié (ADJ) has announced the return of coach Rodrigo Fonseca for the 2027 season. Fonseca is tasked with preparing the squad for the Baianão, the Copa do Brasil, and the Brasileirão Série D.

Separately, Grupo City, the conglomerate that owns Esporte Clube Bahia, is exploring plans to manage the Arena Fonte Nova following the conclusion of the current public-private partnership in 2028. Proposed studies suggest transforming the stadium into a multi-use arena, which could include the construction of a hotel, a convention center, and an expanded commercial area.
