Bahia Health Secretary challenges Feira de Santana Mayor over death claims

The Bahia State Health Secretariat (Sesab) has officially challenged the Mayor of Feira de Santana, José Ronaldo, to provide evidence for claims regarding patient deaths. The mayor recently stated that 700 people died while waiting for medical regulation in the municipality, a figure that Sesab claims is not supported by any official health system data.

State Health Secretary Roberta Santana issued an official notice demanding the source, methodology, and documentation used to reach these numbers. Santana emphasized that while constructive criticism of the regulation system is welcome, she will not tolerate the use of unverified statistics for political purposes.

Additionally, Santana highlighted that despite two decades of local administration, Feira de Santana still lacks a municipal hospital, resulting in 100% of regulated hospitalizations in the city being handled by the state network.
