Bahia institutions propose development missions and discuss 2026 elections

The Academia de Ciências da Bahia (ACB) has released a strategic document titled ‘Bahia: Science as a basis for three missions of socioeconomic development – 2027-2030’. The proposal aims to integrate scientific evidence into the public policy planning of the next state government following the 2026 elections. The three proposed missions focus on: Integral and Equitable Health, Environment, Water and Bioeconomy, and Clean Energy and Green Industrialization.

The health mission specifically targets reducing inequalities related to income, sanitation, and race, focusing on 100 high-deprivation municipalities with an estimated investment between R$ 335 million and R$ 495 million.

In a separate initiative, the Associação Comercial da Bahia (ACB) hosted a meeting in Salvador with business leaders and political scientist Antônio Lavareda to discuss the 2026 electoral landscape. ACB President Isabela Suarez emphasized the need for the business sector to remain prepared for various electoral outcomes while advocating for a government agenda that supports economic activity.
