Inmet issues multiple weather alerts across Brazil as rain, wind and low humidity threaten hundreds of cities

The National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) issued a series of potential danger alerts for several Brazilian states. A yellow alert for intense rain was released for Salvador and up to 200 municipalities in Bahia, with expected precipitation of 20‑30 mm /h and gusty winds of 40‑60 km/h. Similar rain alerts covered 49 other municipalities in Bahia and 54 towns in Alagoas, including Penedo. A yellow vendaval alert warned of strong winds for Salvador, the wider Bahia region and neighbouring states such as Pernambuco, Ceará, Sergipe, Alagoas and Paraíba. Separate orange alerts for high‑speed winds (up to 100 km/h) were issued for Mato Grosso do Sul, affecting 55 municipalities, and a yellow vendaval alert covered 140 municipalities in Paraná, also extending to parts of Santa Catarina, Rio Grande do Sul, Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso do Sul. Low‑humidity warnings were active for 241 municipalities in Minas Gerais, with relative humidity dropping to 20‑30 % and increased fire and health risks. Geada alerts covered 53 municipalities in the South/South‑west of Minas Gerais, where temperatures fell to -1 °C and frost formed. All alerts advise the public to avoid sheltering under trees, keep away from power lines, stay hydrated and follow guidance from local civil defence and fire services.
