Bahia launches multimillion‑real road paving projects in Chapada Diamantina and Uruçuca

The Bahia state government has begun tender processes for two major road‑paving initiatives. The first targets a 39.3‑kilometre stretch of the BA‑245 linking Mucugê, Boninal and Seabra in the Chapada Diamantina region, with an investment of R$ 46.2 million. The work, slated to begin after proposals are opened on 3 June, will cut the travel distance between Mucugê and Seabra from about 188 km to roughly 131 km and is expected to boost regional tourism, especially access to the Vale do Pati, and improve agricultural logistics. The project also includes the construction of two new bridges in Jaborandi.

A second project was authorized by Governor Jerônimo Rodrigues on 21 May for the paving of the BA‑653 between Uruçuca’s district of Serra Grande and the municipal seat. The R$ 50.1 million effort covers 37.5 kilometres and will feature asphalt and inter‑locking concrete sections. The governor highlighted the road’s role in reducing travel time, supporting tourism and facilitating the movement of agricultural products. The ceremony also launched the Conecta Bahia program, providing free internet in the town square and delivering a school bus. State Infrastructure Secretary Saulo Pontes emphasized that both roads will “develop tourism and invest in people.”
