Bahia legislative elections show high reelection rates and political shifts

The 2026 legislative elections in Bahia, Brazil, resulted in a 72% reelection rate for the state's parliamentary seats. Out of 39 contested positions, 28 incumbents successfully secured reelection, with 15 increasing their vote counts and 13 seeing a decrease.

Notable individual performances include Pastor Sargento Isidório (Avante), who achieved a record vote count, and Ivana Bastos (PSD), who surpassed 200,000 votes. Diego Castro (PL) saw the most significant growth, increasing his vote count by 373.9% compared to 2022. Conversely, Lídice da Mata (PSB) failed to secure reelection, finishing as a substitute.

The results also highlighted political renewal through new members such as Daniel Alencar (PSD), Lucas Reis (PT), and Doutora Raissa Soares (PL). While the PT maintained its political strength in the region, its federation partner, the PCdoB, experienced lower vote totals than in the previous election cycle.
