Bahia police investigate attempted femicide in Vitória da Conquista

The Civil Police of Bahia are investigating an attempted femicide involving 21-year-old Paloma da Silva Gomes in Vitória da Conquista. The victim is in serious condition with second and third-degree burns after her partner, identified as Saymon Santos Silva, allegedly poured liquid on her and set her on fire.

According to family reports, the victim attempted to extinguish the flames herself using buckets of water before being taken to a hospital by the suspect's father. Following surgery, Gomes was transferred to the Hospital Geral do Estado in Salvador for specialized treatment. Her family expects her recovery to take several months.

The Special Police Station for Women's Assistance (Deam) has opened an inquiry into the incident, which has since been referred to the Homicide Police Station (DH). The suspect remains at large as authorities continue investigations to determine the motive and specific circumstances of the attack.
