Bahia prosecutors launch investigations into consumer and environmental issues
Public prosecutors in Bahia have launched two separate investigations into different matters in the state.
The Public Ministry of Bahia (MP-BA) has opened a civil inquiry to investigate potential abusive charging practices at the Shopping Barra parking lot in Salvador. The investigation targets Enapark Estacionamentos e Serviços Ltda. and focuses on compliance with the Consumer Defense Code, specifically regarding clear information and the prevention of excessive advantages. Shopping Barra has stated that its pricing is transparent, follows judicial understanding, and is intended to manage vehicle flow.
Separately, the Federal Public Ministry (MPF) has initiated an inquiry into the environmental licensing process for the Salvador-Itaparica Bridge project. The investigation seeks to determine if there was improper fragmentation of environmental licenses, which could prevent a comprehensive assessment of the project's impacts on the Baía de Todos-os-Santos and the Recôncavo Baiano regions. The MPF is also examining whether environmental authorizations for the Estaleiro São Roque do Paraguaçu were used for purposes other than those originally intended.
