Bahia pushes PPP waste program and court‑ordered sanitation plan for municipalities
The Bahia State Urban Development Secretariat (Sedur) signed a 12‑month technical cooperation agreement with the Consórcio da Bacia do Paramirim, which includes 14 municipalities in the state's southwest and west regions. The pact aims to evaluate studies for a Public‑Private Partnership that would modernise the collection, transport, treatment and final disposal of urban solid waste, without any direct financial transfers between the parties.
In a separate legal action, a court ordered the municipality of Vitória da Conquista to finalise and forward its Municipal Basic Sanitation Plan (PMSB) to the city council within 180 days. The ruling follows a civil public suit by the Bahia State Public Prosecutor’s Office citing the city’s failure to complete the plan since 2020. The judgment also requires the municipality to publish the plan online, delegate regulation of sanitation services to a qualified regulator, and notify the National Water and Sanitation Agency within 30 days of the plan’s enactment.
