Bahian Football Federation plans 2027 championship regulations

The Bahian Football Federation (FBF) is currently coordinating with local clubs to establish the regulations for the 2027 Campeonato Baiano. The federation has opted to discuss potential changes directly with the ten participating clubs before formalizing any new guidelines.

A central issue in these discussions is the regulation of foreign players. This follows a decision by the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), supported by 18 of 20 Serie A clubs, to implement a progressive reduction of the limit of foreign players allowed per match. Starting in 2027, the limit will decrease from nine to eight players, with a planned reduction to five players by 2030.

In Bahia, these changes will significantly impact major clubs such as Bahia and Vitória. Bahia currently maintains nine foreign players in its main squad, reaching the existing limit, while Vitória has six. The FBF must decide whether to align the state championship with these new national standards to maintain competitive balance.
