Bahlil Lahadalia addresses BP BUMN oversight and Bali fuel shortages
Bahlil Lahadalia, the Coordinating Minister for Downstreaming and Energy Transition, is facing scrutiny regarding the potential placement of BP BUMN under his ministry's coordination. Observers, including Herry Gunawan from the Next Indonesia Centre and economists from CORE Indonesia, have raised concerns about potential conflicts of interest and the risk of poor governance. They argue that BP BUMN is a strategic institution reporting directly to the President, with a broad mandate covering banking, telecommunications, and food, which may clash with the specific focus of the Downstreaming Ministry.
Separately, Bahlil addressed fuel shortages and long queues at gas stations in Bali. He attributed the disruption to technical issues within PT Pertamina (Persero)'s internal logistics, specifically delays in fuel shipments from Java to Bali. To resolve the issue, Bahlil has instructed Pertamina to increase the number of fuel transport ships from three to seven and to raise the fuel reserve quota in Bali from 11 days to 15 days. He confirmed that supply levels are currently recovering.
