Bahlil Lahadalia appointed Coordinating Minister for Downstreaming and Energy Transition
President Prabowo Subianto has appointed Bahlil Lahadalia to serve a dual mandate as the Coordinating Minister for Downstreaming and Energy Transition while retaining his position as the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM). This restructuring aims to unify the management of natural resource downstreaming and clean energy acceleration under a single coordination umbrella.
Bahlil stated that the decision responds to uncertain global geopolitics and economic dynamics, requiring a more comprehensive approach rather than a partial one. The new ministry is tasked with increasing the domestic value of natural resources and strengthening national energy security and independence. This coordination is expected to streamline cross-ministerial processes, particularly as approximately 90 percent of total investment is concentrated in the energy and mineral sectors.
Supporters and economic analysts suggest the move will clarify coordination chains and accelerate the execution of priority projects, which include 18 major downstreaming initiatives valued at approximately US$38.63 billion. Meanwhile, in political developments, Bahlil also addressed Golkar Party members in Bali, emphasizing the party's inclusivity and its role as an instrument for public rights.
