Bahlil Lahadalia secures African crude oil imports for Indonesia

Indonesian Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Bahlil Lahadalia, has reported successful negotiations to secure crude oil imports from African nations. This strategic shift aims to mitigate supply disruptions caused by geopolitical conflicts in the Middle East.

Approximately 23% to 25% of Indonesia's crude oil supply typically passes through the Strait of Hormuz. With domestic oil production at roughly 600,000 barrels per day against a national consumption of 1.6 million barrels per day, the country relies on importing approximately 1 million barrels daily to meet demand.

Speaking at a HIPPI national working meeting in Jakarta, Lahadalia noted that establishing ties with African suppliers helped stabilize supply. He did not specify the exact volume of oil secured through these new partnerships.
