Bahrain advances carbon neutrality and renewable energy goals

Bahrain has reported significant progress in environmental protection and carbon emission reduction during 2025 and 2026, as part of its Vision 2030 for sustainable development. The nation is working toward achieving carbon neutrality by 2060, with an interim goal of reducing emissions by 30% by 2035.

Key initiatives include the adoption of a circular carbon economy model based on the “4Rs” framework, the expansion of renewable energy projects, and the growth of mangrove cultivation. The country has also focused on enhancing energy efficiency, green building standards, and sustainable finance.

On the international stage, Bahrain submitted its third Voluntary National Review to the United Nations in 2026 to showcase sustainability achievements. Additionally, the kingdom joined the sixth annex of the MARPOL international convention to prevent air pollution from ships and hosted the Middle East Conference and Exhibition on Emission Monitoring and Air Quality in April 2025.
