Bahrain and Saudi Arabia advance national afforestation initiatives
Various regional entities in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia are conducting large-scale tree-planting activities to support national environmental goals and sustainability targets.
In Bahrain, stc Bahrain launched a series of events for Tree Week as part of its ‘Trees for Life’ initiative, involving tree planting at its headquarters and the Budaiya Botanical Garden. This effort aligns with the national plan to double the number of trees in the Kingdom by 2035 and reach carbon neutrality by 2060. Additionally, the Northern Area Municipality planted a rare Baobab tree in Shakhora Park, while employees of the Muharraq Municipal Council planted fruit trees, including almond and mango, to promote productive greenery.
In Saudi Arabia, the Al Baha Municipality has successfully planted over one million trees across the Al Baha region and its governorates. Utilizing mostly local species to conserve water, the initiative has covered 143 parks and gardens, expanding green spaces by more than 1.25 million square meters. These efforts are part of the Saudi Vision 2030 programs aimed at improving quality of life and environmental sustainability.
