Bahrain GP dropped from 2026 F1 calendar amid Middle East tensions

The 2026 Formula 1 schedule has lost the Bahrain Grand Prix for a second time as the escalation of hostilities between the United States and Iran makes the race unsafe. Earlier in the season the Saudi Arabian round was also removed, and the future of the Qatar and Abu Dhabi events, slated for late November and early December, remains uncertain.

The FIA and Formula One Management are reviewing the calendar, which currently lists 22 races but could fall to 20 if the Middle‑East rounds are not reinstated. Replacement venues under consideration include Istanbul Park in Turkey and European circuits such as Portimão and Imola. A final decision is expected around the Dutch Grand Prix in August.

Team leaders have voiced confidence in the governing bodies. McLaren CEO Zak Brown said, "we will run whatever they tell us to run and we are happy to do so," while Ferrari’s Fred Vasseur added, "we have huge confidence in the FIA and the FOM on the calendar." The disruption affects not only Formula 1 but also its support series – Formula 2, Formula 3, MotoGP and the World Endurance Championship – which all rely on the same race weekends.
