Bahrain Grand Prix relocated to Malaysia's Sepang Circuit for 2026
The Formula 1 Bahrain Grand Prix has been relocated to the Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia, scheduled to take place from October 2 to 4, 2026. The race will officially retain its name as the ‘Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix in Malaysia’.
The decision to move the event follows the cancellation of the original April 2026 races in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia. This cancellation was prompted by geopolitical instability in the Middle East, specifically involving conflict with Iran. Security concerns included missile strikes near the Bahrain International Circuit and significant disruptions to regional airspace.
This move marks Formula 1’s return to the Sepang circuit for the first time since 2017. Malaysia’s Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) anticipates approximately 300,000 visitors for the event, including 50,000 international tourists. The relocation was coordinated through an agreement between Formula 1, the FIA, and the governments of both Bahrain and Malaysia.
