Bahraini literary history and young adult literature discussed in regional seminars

The Narrative Committee of the Bahraini Writers and Authors Family organized a seminar titled ‘The Two Collections (Confused) and (The Last Cup) and the Beginnings of the Bahraini Story’. During the session, researcher Dr. Fahad Hussein discussed the roots of local narrative dating back to the 1940s, emphasizing the importance of documenting over 80 years of literary accumulation.

Dr. Hussein highlighted the story ‘Confused’, published in 1941 in the Bahrain newspaper, which reflected local heritage such as the pearl diving season. He also analyzed the collection ‘The Last Cup’ by journalist and writer Ahmed Kamal, noting its themes of love, marriage, and social critique, and how the work was influenced by Arab enlightenment and nationalism.

In Saudi Arabia, the Nala Association for Literature and Narrative Arts held a separate dialogue session regarding young adult literature. Led by Dr. Sabah Issaoui, the discussion explored the identity, psychological shifts, and social transformations addressed in literature for adolescents, noting a gap between the growing creative production in this field and its critical theoretical development.
