Baia Mare fire destroys improvised housing in Craica area
A large-scale fire broke out in the Craica area of Baia Mare, Romania, early Wednesday morning. The blaze, reported around 04:00 on Păltinișului Street, affected several improvised dwellings across an area exceeding 500 square meters.
Emergency responders from ISU Maramureș faced significant challenges due to high amounts of combustible materials in the area and strong winds that accelerated the spread of the flames. To combat the fire and protect nearby structures, authorities mobilized seven water and foam vehicles, two command vehicles, and two SMURD crews. The Baia Mare City Hall also provided three water tankers and two pieces of machinery to support the operation.
Firefighters divided the intervention into three sectors to localize and extinguish the hotspots. As of the latest reports, no casualties have been confirmed.
