Baia Mare initiates Săsar River urban regeneration project
The municipality of Baia Mare has initiated a public procurement process to develop technical documentation for the ‘Urban Regeneration of the Săsar River for Leisure and Recreation’ project. The initiative aims to transform the areas surrounding the Săsar River into a ‘green-blue corridor’ designed for sports, community activities, and tourism.
Mayor Doru Dăncuș described the project as one of the most ambitious urban regeneration efforts in the city’s recent history, intended to shift Baia Mare’s image from an industrial center to a modern urban space. The plan includes creating navigable sections of the river, pedestrian promenades, bicycle paths, rest areas, viewpoints, pontoons, and walkways. Additionally, the project features bank naturalization, tree planting, biodiversity protection zones, inclusive playgrounds, and public lighting.
The estimated value for the technical documentation—which includes the feasibility study and technical design—is approximately 2,767,827.86 lei excluding VAT. The contract is expected to last eight months. Funding for these preparatory documents is provided through the North-West Regional Program 2021-2027 via a partnership with the North-West Regional Development Agency.
