Baia Mare police launch manhunt for escaped inmate
Authorities in Maramureș are conducting a large-scale manhunt for Dorel Dorin Moldovan, a 28-year-old inmate who escaped from a construction site in Baia Mare while performing work hours. The escape occurred around 1:30 PM in an unguarded area. Moldovan, who is serving a sentence of three years and seven months for aggravated theft, was last seen wearing dark pants and a black t-shirt.
Over 400 personnel, including police, gendarmes, and prison staff, are involved in the search. Law enforcement is utilizing drones equipped with thermal imaging technology to scan the area, and checkpoints have been established at city exits. Searches have also been extended toward the border in case the fugitive attempts to leave Romania.
The situation is heightened by reports from cellmates suggesting Moldovan intended to harm his partner following a recent telephone conflict. Consequently, police have placed the woman under protection. Residents have been issued RO-Alert messages advising them to remain vigilant and avoid contact with the man if spotted.
