BAIC to launch new hybrid BJ SUV line in Spain

Chinese automaker BAIC will introduce its new BJ family of retro‑styled, hybrid off‑road SUVs in the Spanish market through importer Invicta. The first model, the BJ30 HEV, is slated for about 50 registrations this year and is projected to reach 350 units in 2027 and 1,200 by 2028. It uses a 1.5‑litre gasoline engine combined with a rear‑axle motor, delivering 409 hp through a seven‑speed dual‑clutch transmission and all‑wheel drive, and weighs 1,770 kg.

The larger BJ40 will feature a reduction gear and the even bigger BJ60 will exceed five metres in length, offer three rows of seats for up to seven passengers and retain the hybrid powertrain. Both models retain the retro off‑road aesthetic. Invicta also notes the possibility of local assembly by Santana in Linares with minor front‑end modifications. The overall goal is for BAIC’s five models—including the X55 and X75—to surpass 1,000 units in Spain in 2027 and triple that figure by 2028.
