Baiersbronn Frischfaser Karton to close operations

Baiersbronn Frischfaser Karton, a cardboard manufacturer owned by Folding Boxboard Solutions, will cease operations on September 7, 2026. The company filed for insolvency on June 23, citing high energy costs, structural overcapacity, and a difficult market environment.

Despite previous hopes for a rescue, a potential investor has withdrawn after failing to secure the necessary financing for the transaction. Insolvency administrator Markus Plathner confirmed that the funding required to complete the deal could not be guaranteed.

The closure affects approximately 220 employees in the Freudenstadt district. While the workforce is currently completing existing orders and using remaining materials, the municipality of Baiersbronn has stated that funds are no longer available to continue operations or pay staff. Local authorities are currently working with regional companies and state representatives to find new perspectives for the affected workers and retain skilled labor in the region.
