Baiersbronn maintains high Michelin star density

The German municipality of Baiersbronn, located in the Black Forest, maintains one of the highest densities of Michelin stars in the world. With a population of approximately 15,000 residents, the town holds eight Michelin stars, resulting in one star for every 2,000 inhabitants.

This density is significantly higher than in major global metropolises; for comparison, Tokyo has one Michelin star for every 68,000 residents. While the town lost four stars in 2020 due to a hotel fire that destroyed two top restaurants, it successfully recovered to eight stars by the following year.

The town’s culinary reputation is attributed to the long-term commitment of several hotelier families and the influence of renowned chefs, such as Harald Wohlfahrt. Recent Michelin Guide evaluations have continued to recognize local establishments, including ‘1789’ and ‘Schlossberg’.
