Bailey Smith undergoes shoulder surgery following Geelong loss
Geelong superstar Bailey Smith has undergone reconstruction surgery on his right shoulder following the conclusion of the Cats’ season. Smith, who played much of the season with both shoulders heavily strapped, is not expected to return to contact training until the new year.
Smith had a standout season, averaging over 32 touches per game and earning his second consecutive All-Australian selection. He was a key performer in Geelong’s recent semi-final loss to Fremantle, recording 29 touches during the match.
In other club news, free agent Zak Butters has expressed interest in joining the Western Bulldogs. Meanwhile, veteran ruckman Rhys Stanley remains in doubt after sustaining a suspected torn pectoral muscle during the preliminary final against Port Melbourne.
