Baileys launches $25,000 Perth verge garden competition

Gardening brand Baileys, in partnership with The Sunday Times, has opened entries for the Baileys Verge Awards in Perth, marking the company's 100‑year anniversary. The competition offers more than $25,000 in prizes, including a $10,000 cash award for the best front‑verge garden and three $5,000 makeover grants for nominated residents.

The inaugural judging panel features The Sunday Times gardening columnist Andrea Whitely, garden personality Neville Passmore, sustainability advocate Mel Logozzo, and fourth‑generation Baileys family member Gen Bailey. Organisers say the awards aim to encourage residents to transform suburban verges into biodiverse spaces that benefit wildlife, reduce urban heat and strengthen community ties. A federal‑government study cited by the launch notes that public greening can lower heat‑stress health costs and improve social well‑being.

Perth residents may submit their own verge or nominate a neighbour, friend or family member whose garden deserves recognition and support.
