Bailey's Law petition gains 40,000 signatures for NSW legal reform

A petition calling for stricter regulations on intensive correction orders (ICO) and community correction orders (CCO) has garnered more than 40,000 signatures in New South Wales. The campaign, known as ‘Bailey’s Law’, was launched by Carol Micallef following the December 2022 death of her son, Bailey Jones.

Jones was fatally stabbed by his cousin, Dominic Saliba, who was serving home detention as part of an ICO at the time of the incident. The proposed legal changes seek more rigid enforcement of ICO and CCO conditions, which can include bans on alcohol, firearms, and non-prescribed drugs.

Liza Butler, the State Member for South Coast, is expected to raise the matter in Parliament in late 2024 once the residency of the signatories has been verified.
