Spanish coastal towns celebrate Blue Flag beach certifications

The municipality of Marbella announced that its coastline now displays a total of 46 environmental awards, including eight Blue Flags, 19 Quality flags and 19 Sustainability flags across its many beaches such as Cabopino, El Faro and Los Monteros. The Blue Flag program, run by the Federation of Environmental Education and coordinated in Spain by ADEAC, recognises beaches that meet strict criteria for water quality, environmental management, safety and services.

In Baiona, the mayor Jesús Vázquez Almuína presided over a ceremony in Praia da Ribeira to re‑validate Blue Flags for the beaches of Barbeira, Concheira, Frades, Ribeira, Santa Marta and A Ladeira. He highlighted the collective effort of municipal workers and visitors in maintaining the high environmental standards that make the town’s shoreline a key tourist attraction.

Arrecife also reported that it continues to hold its sole Blue Flag, now complemented by new services to enhance visitor experience. Together, these recognitions underscore the ongoing commitment of Spanish coastal communities to environmental education and sustainable tourism.
