Baiona awards first Medals of Merit for the Portuguese Coastal Camino

Baiona municipal council held an extraordinary session and approved the first Medals of Merit for the Portuguese Coastal Camino (Camino Portugués por la Costa). The medals will be presented to the Xunta de Galicia in the institutional category and posthumously to Juan Manuel López‑Chaves Menéndez for his research and promotion of the historic route.

The same session set the municipality’s local holidays for 2027, including a July day honoring the Virgin of Carmen and September 27 for San Cosme and San Damián. It also approved €1,474,850.85 for the renovation of the Santa Liberata area, renewed agreements for the Spain Digital Agenda 2026, and amended the statutes of the Mancomunidad de O Val Miñor to allow a joint taxi service among Baiona, Gondomar and Nigrán.
