Baiona replica of La Pinta departs for repairs in Vigo

The replica of the caravel La Pinta has departed the port of Baiona for essential maintenance and repairs. The vessel, which commemorates the 1493 arrival of news regarding the discovery of the Americas, has been moved to the Cardama shipyards in Vigo.

The Baiona City Council awarded the maintenance contract, valued at 58,000 euros, with an expected execution period of fifteen days. The operation involved a complex maneuver assisted by the Monte Real Club de Yates and the tugboat Irmáns García Nodal. The work will focus on the maintenance of moorings and anchoring systems to ensure the long-term conservation of this maritime heritage symbol.

Baiona remains a significant historical site for maritime history, notably featuring the Fortaleza de Monterreal, which overlooks the entrance to the Vigo estuary.
