Baiona to host traditional Virxe da Rocha pilgrimage

Baiona will celebrate its traditional Romería de la Virxe da Rocha on Sunday, August 30, at Monte Sansón and the Mercedes de la Escalera park. The event features a blend of religious, musical, and gastronomic activities designed to preserve local customs.

The program begins at 12:30 with a performance by the bagpipe group ‘Os Trebellos’ from the Asociación Folclórica Airiños da Lagoa de Baíña, followed by a solemn mass at 13:00 at the foot of the Virgin of the Rock monument.

A central part of the celebration is the traditional outdoor meal, which includes sardines, choripán, millo bread, and wine. Organizers expect to grill approximately 250 kilos of sardines. The afternoon will include children's activities such as inflatables and face painting, concluding with a comedy monologue by Oswaldo Digón at the Praza do Concello.
