Brazilian Navy issues swell alert for São Paulo and Rio coasts

The Brazilian Navy has issued a heavy swell alert for the coastlines of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, effective from Monday (24) through Thursday (27). The warning covers the coastal stretch between Ilhabela (SP) and Campos dos Goytacazes (RJ), with waves predicted to reach heights of up to 3 meters.

In the Baixada Santista region, authorities are on alert for potential flooding. Oceanographic models indicate that water levels in estuary channels could rise by approximately 40 centimeters above normal tide levels, potentially impacting roads near the channels.

Civil Defense and local authorities recommend several safety precautions: avoiding swimming in the ocean, staying away from rocky outcrops and cliffs, and suspending navigation for small and medium-sized vessels. Water sports such as surfing, canoeing, and stand-up paddle are also discouraged. Residents and tourists are advised to monitor rising tides that may reach boardwalks and coastal roads. In the event of an accident, officials urge people not to attempt rescues themselves but to contact the Fire Department immediately via 193.
